Food Guide in The Five Elements 五行講飲食

Did you already know if your Five Elements are balanced? If not, read my previous article The Five Elements Theory and check your Five Elements chart there. Today, we are going to talk about how food and health are related through the angle of The Five Elements philosophy. Would our daily intakes affect our health? And how? By knowing your innate five elements and eat according to your needs is your best way to practice a balance life.


大家係咪都已經清楚自己嘅先天五行元素夠唔夠平衡呢?仲未知嘅話可以去上篇文章五行的規律睇睇。今次講吓飲食同健康嘅五行關係。我哋每日食咁多嘢落肚,究竟呢啲食物對我哋嘅健康會有啲咩影響?其實你可以因應自己嘅先天五行元素比例去揀最啱你食嘅食物,咁就最切合養生之道。依家就簡單介紹一下。


Metal 金

Metal is dominated in Autumn, and it demonstrates its functions through body parts of lungs, colon, nose and skin.


People with high level of Metal: vulnerable to respiratory problems, influenza and coughing.

People with low level of Metal: vulnerable to allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, pneumonia, bronchitis, etc.


Representative food: White in color, e.g. Lily bulb, loquat, snow fungus, pear, almond, lotus seed, honey, etc.

People who have poor lung function usually like spicy food. Suggest eating food focus on regulating the lung functions, such as food belongs to Fire and Wood.

在秋天最旺,主管身體嘅肺部、大腸、鼻和皮膚。

金太旺嘅人:易有呼吸不暢、感冒、咳嗽氣喘等。

金太弱嘅人:易有鼻敏感、鼻竇炎、肺炎、支氣管炎等。


屬金嘅食物:白色嘅食物,例如百合、枇杷、雪耳、鴨梨、杏仁、蓮子、蜂蜜等

肺功能弱嘅人喜歡味辛嘅食物,建議多食以滋陰補氣、養肺化痰為主,例如屬火同木嘅食物。


過悲傷肺 Gloomy Harms Lungs

Metal affects our emotion of Sadness. People with poor lung function easily become sorrow and sentimental. When someone is sober and cry heavily, s/he usually feel a loss of oxygen and needs to take deep breaths because such emotion has used up much of her/his oxygen and energy. At the same time, sadness is harmful to our lungs. Fire restraints Metal and controls our emotion of happiness. Do some happy things whenever you are gloomy can reduce the harm to your lungs.


主管嘅情緒:悲傷肺功能差嘅人容易感到悲傷,多愁善感。過份悲傷或經常喊嘅朋友好多時喊完都好似無晒力氣咁,要深深咁呼吸嚟補番啲氣,就係因為悲傷同喊嘅時候都會用咗身體好多氧氣同力量,同時損害肺部。火剋金,心屬火,主喜樂。如果你感到過度悲傷時,可以做啲能令你快樂起嚟嘅事嚟轉移一下注意力,減低對肺嘅傷害。


Wood 木

Wood is dominated in Spring, and it demonstrates its functions through body parts of liver, eyes and tendon.

People with high level of Wood: often feel irritable, problems on liver and gallbladder, should control intake of fats and protein.

People with low level of Wood: usually weak, get tired and illnesses easily, should quit or drink less alcohol, and enough resting time is crucial.


Representative food: Green in color, e.g. Kiwi fruit, kelp, duck, mung beans, cane, green leaves vegetables and melons, etc.

People with poor liver function like sour food. Suggest eating food focus on soothing the liver functions and detoxification such as food belongs to Metal and Fire.

在春天最旺,主管身體嘅肝臟、膽、眼睛和筋骨。

木太旺嘅人:易生氣和有肝膽容易有問題,宜控制脂肪和蛋白質嘅吸收。

木太弱嘅人:體質較差、易疲累和生病,應戒酒或少飲酒,保持良好作息習慣。


屬木嘅食物:綠色嘅食物,例如青奇異果、海帶、鴨肉、綠豆、甘蔗、蔬菜、瓜等。

肝功能嘅人特別喜歡吃酸味,建議進食以舒肝解毒為主,例如屬金同火嘅食物。


過怒傷肝 Outraged Harms Liver

Wood affects our emotion of Anger. People with poor liver function often have bad temper and easily get irritated. Those who always get angry are people with too much suppressed pressures and didn't find proper ways to release, so it accumulates into a pressure snowball which can be exploded at any second. Such emotion surely hurts the liver. Metal restraints Wood and controls our emotion of sadness. Watch a sorrow movie whenever you are outraged and have a good cry can reduce the harm to your liver.


主管嘅情緒:憤怒。肝功能差嘅人容易動怒,脾氣比較大。經常感到憤怒嘅人大多數係日常抑壓太多壓力同情緒而又無得到宣洩,鬱埋鬱埋就好容易爆發,而且仲會傷肝。金剋木,肺屬金,主悲傷。如果你感到怒不可止時,可以試吓即刻睇套悲慘嘅戲令自己大喊一場,等情緒可以宣洩一下,化解怒氣對肝嘅傷害。



Water 水

Water is dominated in Winter, and it demonstrates its functions through body parts of kidneys, ears and bones.

People with high level of Water: usually weak, cold limbs and cold intolerance.

People with low level of Water: vulnerable to urological problems.


Representative food: Black in color, e.g. Black rice, seaweed, black soybean, black sesame, seafood, sea cucumber, walnut, chestnut, black grapes, etc.

People with poor kidney function like salty food. Suggest eating food focus on strengthen the kidney functions and keep the body warm such as food belongs to Fire and Earth.

在冬天最旺,主管身體嘅腎臟、耳朶和骨骼。

水太旺嘅人:易有體質弱、四肢冰冷、畏寒等。

水太弱嘅人:易有泌尿系統毛病。


屬水嘅食物:黑色嘅食物,包括紫米、紫菜、黑豆、黑芝麻、海鮮、海蔘、合桃、栗子、黑葡萄等。

腎功能差嘅人偏好咸味嘅食物,建議多食以養腎(溫陽)益氣,例如屬火同土嘅食物。

過恐傷腎 Panic Harms Kidneys

Water affects our emotion of Panic. People with poor kidney function often feel panic and timid. People who are timid always feel panic towards their surroundings which creates tension that hurts the kidneys. Earth restraints Water and controls our emotion of thinking. Next time when you feel anxious, think deeply, play board games to relax your tensions. Do no harm to your kidneys.


主管嘅情緒:恐懼。腎功能差嘅人性格膽小,容易對事產生恐懼。經常感到恐懼嘅人會時常處於緊張、擔心嘅狀態,而呢種情緒係會傷腎。土剋水,脾屬土,主思慮。如果你感到異常恐懼、緊張萬分時,不妨試吓動多啲腦筋,玩吓健腦益智嘅遊戲,分散一下緊張嘅情緒減低對腎嘅傷害。


Fire 火

Fire is dominated in Summer, and it demonstrates its functions through body parts of heart, tongue and pulse.

People with high level of Fire: vulnerable to Three-Hypers problems and cardiovascular diseases.

People with low level of Fire: vulnerable to anaemia and bradycardia.


Representative food: Red in color, e.g. Beef, lamb, tomato, beetroot, carrot, cherry, etc.

People with poor heart function like bitter food. Suggest eating food focus on strengthen the heart functions such as food belongs to Water.

在夏天最旺,主管身體嘅心臟、舌頭和脈搏。

火太旺嘅人:易有「三高」問題、心血管毛病等。

火太弱嘅人:易有貧血、心跳慢等毛病。


屬火嘅食物:紅色嘅食物,包括牛肉、羊肉、蕃茄、紅菜頭、紅蘿蔔、車厘子等。

心臟功能差嘅人偏好苦味嘅食物,建議多食以調養心腎為主,例如屬水嘅食物。


過喜傷心 Ecstatic Harms Heart

Fire affects our emotion of Excitement. People with poor heart function often co-exit of extremely happiness and excitement. People who are ecstatic usually are overreact to their surroundings, like butterflies in stomach which creates burden on the heart. Water restraints Fire and controls our emotion of Panic. When you are ecstatic, watch a horror movie, scream as loud as you can to reduce the harm to your heart.


主管嘅情緒:喜樂。心臟功能差嘅人容易過份高興同激動。經常處於過度興奮嘅人對周遭嘅事物都易有情緒反應,時而高興時而激動,心情七上八落,增加對心臟嘅負擔。水剋火,腎屬水,主恐懼。當你感到過度興奮時,可以試吓揀套恐怖片嚟睇,透過「嚇一嚇自己」,嚟平衡一下過於興奮嘅心情,等個心臟好過啲。


Earth 土

Earth is dominated in the last month of each season, and it demonstrates its functions through body parts of stomach, mouth and muscles.

People with high level of Earth: usually have weak digestive functions, abdominal pain and bloating.

People with low level of Earth: vulnerable to digestive problems, gastritis, diabetes mellitus and hemorrhoids.


Representative food: Yellow in color, e.g. Sweet potato, pumpkin, soy sprouts, yam, glutinous rice, banana, orange, grape fruit, etc.

People with poor stomach function like sweet food. Suggest eating food focus on improving the stomach functions and digestion such as food belongs to Earth.

在每季最後嘅一個月最當旺,主管身體嘅脾胃、口腔和肌肉。

土太旺嘅人:腸胃功能較弱,易有腹痛、腹脹等。

土太弱嘅人:易有腸胃功能或消化系統毛病、胃炎、糖尿病、痔瘡等。


屬土嘅食物:黃色嘅食物,包括蕃薯、南瓜、黃豆芽、山藥、糯米、香蕉、橙、西柚等。

脾胃功能差嘅人偏好甜味嘅食物,建議多食以健脾、促進消化吸收能力為主,例如屬土嘅食物。


過慮傷脾 Overthinking Harms Stomach

Earth affects our emotion of Thinking. People with poor stomach function usually have bad sleep and eating habit. People who overthink often forgot to eat, even if they do, they have their diets and works/think at the same time in which is harmful to the stomach and digestive system. Wood restraints Earth and controls our emotion of Anger. Next time when you are immersed in your thinking, ask anyone around you to start a fight with you so as to release your tensions and your stomach at the same time.


主管嘅情緒:思慮。脾胃功能差嘅人比較容易瞓得唔好、食得差。俗語話「廢寢忘食」就最啱用嚟形容經常過度思慮嘅人。就算有進餐,都會一邊食一邊繼續工作/思考,咁樣係會直接影響脾胃同埋消化功能。木剋土,肝屬木,主憤怒。下次你沉思得太耐時,可以叫身邊嘅人試吓激嬲你,等你可以喺過於思慮嘅當下,跳番出嚟,順便發番個脾氣,俾機會脾胃休息吓。




Sadness, Anger, Panic, Excitement and Thinking are normal emotions.

But "Too much Water drowned the Miller",

too much or too little both create imbalance and

will affect our health!


悲、怒、恐、喜、慮,呢啲本身都屬於正常嘅情緒,不過所有嘢包括情緒,都係「過猶不及」,太多或者太少都會變成唔平衡,影響養生!
